Why?
For far too long the playing field in transportation has been littered with falsified hours of service documents. What Now?
Dec 16, 2019 is the final compliance deadline for the federal electronic logging device (ELD) mandate in the USA. That means we are less than two weeks away from real enforcement. Drivers and fleets can face violations from $1,000 to $10,000 or higher. Any driver using an outdated system (AOBRD) or is using an ELD that isn’t registered risk being placed out-of-service for a minimum of 10 hours. Ultimately this can influence your compliance, safety, accountability (CSA) score which has a large influence on your fleet’s insurance premiums.
AOBRD isn’t an ELD?
For simplicity, an AOBRD is a reduced version of an ELD. When the original USA ELD mandate was announced carriers already using technology were given a grace period of roughly 2 years to have their existing technology become a certified ELD or switch their technology to a certified ELD. Unfortunately for several carriers, many transportation technology providers have been unable to meet ELD compliance. This failure ultimately falls back onto the carrier and puts the carrier at risk of the above legislative action.
